George Rorick, the father of the USA Today weather map and architect of six graphics services for print and broadcast, explains his creative drive this way: “Why do everything the same old way? It’s much more interesting to adapt.”


He’ll retire next week after 42 years in the news business — most recently as a member of the Poynter Institute’s visual journalism faculty. In this special Poynter Online Extra, you’ll learn about his early influences, greatest successes, and who he met along the way.
