Kyle Pope, the editor in chief of several Manhattan local weeklies, will be the next editor and publisher of Columbia Journalism Review, the magazine announced Friday.
He replaces Liz Spayd, who left CJR after she was hired as public editor for The New York Times.
He spent a decade as a reporter, foreign correspondent, and editor at The Wall Street Journal before joining Conde Nast’s late Portfolio magazine as deputy editor, where, among other accomplishments, he edited the Michael Lewis cover story that later grew into the book and movie The Big Short. He also served as editor in chief of The New York Observer.
Pope will start in September.
