An Evening with NBC News’ Peter Alexander: an inside look at covering the White House

The Poynter Institute will host an evening with Peter Alexander, chief White House correspondent for NBC News and co-anchor of Weekend Today, on Thursday, Sept. 23, starting at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. This Emmy Award-winning journalist will come to us live from the center of our nation’s breaking news in Washington. Join us for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at covering U.S. presidencies and global affairs from the White House press room. Alexander has been broadcasting top stories from the White House for NBC News since 2012, when he was recognized as one of Politico’s “10 Breakout Reporters.” He is known for his on-the-ground coverage of presidential campaign trails, executive orders and administrative briefings. Alexander has also been praised for his international reporting, including Iraq’s historic 2005 election, the death of Osama bin Laden and the tsunami in Indonesia. Most recently, Alexander sparked national conversations after covering the American evacuation of Afghanistan, anchoring a special report on the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, conducting the Second Gentleman’s first interview and asking President Biden for comments surrounding Facebook’s role in COVID-19 vaccine misinformation. During this engaging conversation with Alexander, we’ll learn what it’s like to:
  • Be the first to break the world’s biggest stories
  • Globe-trot with the president
  • Cover the White House with a critical eye
  • Hold the highest levels of government accountable
Alexander will also talk about the challenges and honor of being a White House correspondent for a major news network. You’ll have the opportunity to ask Alexander questions before the conversation, too. Submit your inquiries in advance to marketing@poynter.org. The conversation will be moderated by Poynter’s Joie Chen, former anchor at Al Jazeera America and CNN and former Washington correspondent for CBS News.
