Alesha Williams Boyd, Senior Digital Director, USA TODAY Network, is a newsroom champion for cultivating loyal audiences with impactful journalism and storytelling, targeted content creation and successful engagement and optimization strategies.

In her previous role as Senior Digital Director, USA TODAY Network Northeast, Williams Boyd led the effort to stand up the regional digital team for Gannett’s five largest sites in the northeastern United States. She and her team have helped lead and support the group’s digital operation and growth, which included a 46% increase in digital subscriptions YOY.

Previously, she served as lead editor on award-winning solutions journalism and successfully engaged social and digital audiences around content, problem-solving efforts, community celebrations, and critical conversations that have delivered results and made our communities better places to live.

Williams Boyd also is a champion for diversity, growing minority employment and career development on her core regional digital team and coaching a successful strategic newsroom effort aimed at growing diversity and inclusion in coverage and hiring.

Her honors as editor include the National Association of Black Journalists’ Salute to Excellence awards, in 2012 and 2014, for enterprise reports that explored and offered solutions to the root causes of academic performance issues, crime and other challenges facing the Asbury Park area’s underserved communities.

Williams Boyd also worked side-by-side with communities in overcoming those challenges, organizing forums, book drives, literacy events and more in the city, both in her newsroom role and as a volunteer.

In addition to New Jersey Press Association, Silurians Press Club and National Headliner honors for her work in digital, social media and enterprise journalism, Williams Boyd in 2020 was recognized with a citation from the State of New Jersey and Neptune Township, home of the Asbury Park Press, celebrating her efforts as a leader of color in the field.

A graduate of Monmouth University (cum laude), Williams Boyd also was named a Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore Woman of Distinction in 2018.
