Brian De Los Santos

Editor of LAist, Southern California Public Radio

Group:

Brian De Los Santos is the editor of LAist at Southern California Public Radio. His experience in digital journalism — with stints in radio and producing/reporting — brought him back to the place of his first internship. He’s worked in several newsrooms across the country, including NPR, The Desert Sun/USA TODAY Network, KCRW and the LA Times, where he assisted the team that won the 2016 Breaking News Pulitzer. He currently edits culture and arts coverage and the transportation and mobility beat. Newsletters and social media strategy are also part of his editing/oversight duties. His current team produces/edits LAist’s digital spaces and also produces content for both on-air and online. As the site lead, he collaborates with everyone in the newsroom to create digital strategies for most stories that publish on LAist.com. He also aims to bring non-editorial departments — like marketing, on-demand team, membership, underwriting — into LAist’s publishing conversations to reach larger and targeted audiences for content. He oversees the digital team’s budget and works with underwriting and finance to make space for new initiatives and hiring. He’s been part of two company-wide groups aimed at changing the news organization during his time at Southern California Public Radio: digital transformation and newsletter-membership journey.
