Joanna Webster is Deputy Global Editor for Visuals at Reuters, the world’s largest independent news organisation. She helps to create and execute strategy for Reuters’ award-winning video and pictures team, driving value for Reuters’ media customers and consumers. Prior to this role she was Managing Editor for Strategy and Operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (2017-2019), responsible for multimedia coverage, speed, editorial staff security, training, budgets, strategic workforce planning and diversity. She drove a major overhaul of Reuters’ dual-language bureaus in 2018 and led the $12 billion newsroom redesign and move in 2019/2020. She joined Reuters in 2009 as a senior producer for Insider Financial TV. In 2015, she launched Reuters TV – an award-winning, flagship, consumer product (on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Amazon Alexa and Roku), which surpassed one million active users in 2016 and infused a start-up culture across the business. She started her career in the trade press and had a front row seat to the 2007 financial crisis as a producer and on-screen reporter for CNBC Television, accumulating more than 3,000 hours of live TV gallery experience. She has also delivered major outside broadcasts, including ‘Davos Today’ for the World Economic Forum from 2010 to 2016. She is a Trustee for the National Council for the Training of Journalists in the UK, a keynote and Tedx speaker, and a qualified hatha yoga instructor.
