Joe Ruiz is a senior editor for CNN Politics, where he coordinates weekend digital coverage of politics in Washington, including major events and breaking news. Ruiz was previously the weekend editor at NPR, where he led most of its digital news coverage and social media. He also helped NPR’s efforts with emerging platforms, newsroom diversity, and its use of archive material. He also worked as executive producer for digital news at 41 Action News in Kansas City, leading the station’s day-to-day digital news operations and contributing to a project that led Kansas lawmakers to relax some of the state’s restrictive open-records laws. He was part of the Seattle Times team that won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting for its coverage of the shooting deaths of four Lakewood police officers and the ensuing manhunt for the killer. Ruiz is a proud alumnus of Texas State University and has served on the national board of directors at the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
