Bob Costas' eye infection worsens; Matt Lauer will take over coverage Tuesday

Bob Costas' eye infection has gotten so bad he's going to step back from coverage of the Sochi Olympic Games, he said Tuesday on "Today." Matt Lauer will take over in what Costas framed as a call to the bullpen.

Monday night, Costas drank vodka on-air, telling Mary Carillo “My eyes can’t get any redder."

Deadspin is monitoring the situation. Rick Chandler reports that Costas' eye has become a "Meme Machine."

And Twitter, well, Costas has a legitimate excuse now not to read Twitter. Let's envy him that.
