Bostonian discovers Twitter's value during water crisis

Mark Leccese says he's spent months trying to figure out if there's useful journalism on Twitter. He found it over the weekend after Boston area residents lost their supply of clean drinking water. "A combination of reports from Boston-area Twitter users and tweets from a few blogs and mainstream media outlets kept the story up to date minute by minute."

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
