Buffalo News to require online commenters to use their real names

Readers will have to fill out an online form and include a phone number before they're allowed to post comments on the Buffalo News website. "It won’t be foolproof," acknowledges editor Margaret Sullivan, "and it will be somewhat labor-intensive for us, but we think it will raise the level of the discussion."

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
