Charlotte Observer editor defends controversial request for city's e-mail list

Charlotte Observer

Rick Thames says the Observer won't publish residents' e-mail addresses or pass them on to anyone else. "This was solely about journalism," the editor says of his paper's open-records request for the city of Charlotte's e-mail alerts list. "In hindsight, we should have been clearer [about the paper's intentions] as we made our requests, and we apologize for raising concerns." || Related post.
