Colorado newspapers observe pot holiday

Yesterday was not just Easter, but also April 20, or 4/20, a special day and a special number for people who smoke pot. Every year, Ryan Grim explains the significance of that number in The Huffington Post.

Depending on whom you ask or their state of inebriation, there are as many varieties of answers as strains of medical bud in California. It's the number of active chemicals in marijuana. It's teatime in Holland. It has something to do with Hitler's birthday. It's those numbers in that Bob Dylan song multiplied.

High Times also looked at the culture and history of the number.

Here's how that day was observed publicly, mostly in Colorado, but also in New Jersey.

The Denver Post:

(Boulder, Colo.) Daily Camera The (Grand Junction, Colo.) Daily Sentinel: The Durango (Colo.) Herald: The (Colorado Springs, Colo.) Gazette: The (Trenton, N.J.) Trentonian:

On April 17, Poynter's Andrew Beaujon wrote about the newest columnist for The Denver Post's pot site, The Cannabist -- Whoppi Goldberg. The Cannabist had lots of updates from High Times' Cannabis Cup, including info on an open spot for a cannabis reviewer. If you were busy yesterday and didn't see it, however, that deadline has passed.
