Join The Poynter Institute and the Ford Foundation at the Knight Conference Center at the Newseum for a conversation on the values and practices in the evolution of news.

Our goal is to identify a pathway that ensures principles that serve the public good will remain the motivating force for both the traditional media, the Fourth Estate, and new news providers, the Fifth Estate.

Please join us and other notable news leaders for a daylong event in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, June 29th.  It will be the first-of-its-kind convening as we gather preeminent journalists and thought leaders for a robust and stimulating conversation.

While legacy newsrooms continue to contract in size and scope, the number of people and organizations providing information and commentary will continue to expand. Members of the Fifth Estate are coming of age and taking their place on the local and national level. Citizens and communities are responding and adjusting their habits of communication and consumption.  The Fourth Estate, long heralded as the guardian of democracy, now must find a way to coexist with the growing number of nontraditional “news” providers.

The trend prompts critical questions: How will democracy work? How will citizens connect with various communities? How will we all find reliable, actionable information?

Our hope is to encourage the most recognizable voices in the Fifth Estate to use their emerging influence to articulate principles that serve the public good.

We look forward to seeing you at the Newseum in June.
