FBI watched Halberstam for more than two decades

Cristina Alesci reports the FBI kept tabs on David Halberstam's reporting, tracked his marriage to a Polish actress and prepared background reports on him for other federal agencies. She discovered the feds paid particular attention to Halberstam in the mid-1960s when he was a New York Times correspondent in Poland during the Cold War.

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
