Federal records show CNNMoney.com, Chicago Tribune used active-duty Marines as interns

The Upshot
Lt. Col. Ricardo Player's stint at the Tribune coincided with the run-up to the invasion of Iraq. "It was a great experience," he tells John Cook. "I sat in on front page meetings, and did fact-checking for the website. I got to cover a tornado" for Tribune Co.-owned CLTV. He says he avoided situations where he would have a "direct conflict of interest" between his military duties and staff obligations.
