Freedom Forum paid $1.4M in bonuses to top execs in 2008

The bonuses -- given in a year when the nonprofit foundation's endowment suffered multimillion-dollar losses, and its Newseum began a series of layoffs -- included $375,000 to Freedom Forum CEO Charles Overby (total 2008 compensation: $991,044), and $225,000 to the Newseum's then-president, Peter Prichard, according to newly released documents.

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
