Gannett orders newspaper staffers to take a week off without pay

The first-quarter furloughs will affect workers at the 81 papers that make up Gannett's U.S. community publishing division. Staffers at USA Today and Detroit Free Press are exempt. || Read the memo. || At Gannett's Hattiesburg American, employees have been told they won't have to take furloughs, but their pay will be cut 6.5 percent.
