Tom Giratikanon, graphics editor at The New York Times, and Sisi Wei, graphics editor at The Washington Post, have launched an initiative to teach journalists to code.
The two journalists, who both attended Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, have just completed their first “Code With Me” workshop — a two-day session that pairs journalists with coding mentors.
During this week’s career chat, Giratikanon and Wei talked about the session and the value of coding in journalism. They also offered tips and resources on how journalists can learn to code.
