Jazmine Hughes, a contributing editor at The Hairpin, will be an associate digital editor at The New York Times Magazine, Editor-in-Chief Jake Silverstein tweeted Thursday.

Silverstein also announced the appointment in a memo to staff, calling her appointment a boon for the magazine.

This is great news for the magazine. Jazmine (a.k.a. @jazzedloon) is currently a contributing editor at The Hairpin, and before that was a web producer at nymag.com. Her writing (beware; much of it is very funny) has appeared in the New Yorker, The New Republic, and Gawker. She loves plants.

Silverstein’s comments reference a Hairpin piece in which Hughes wonders publicly what she should name the flora in her residence.

Hughes tweeted that her new job will take her away from The Hairpin, where she started in September.
