Jeff Meade’s editor says her ‘blood ran cold’ when reading his column confessing to making up nun’s quotes & other sins:

I returned from vacation this week and was horrified to read his Tuesday column which started out by saying: “The most unethical things I’ve ever done as a reporter …” He then gave us five examples, including reconstructing a quote from memory after he lost his notes and getting a coach to give him boilerplate quotes about a game that hadn’t happened yet. …

Jeff says he was only trying to relate some funny incidents showing that reporters aren’t supermen; they’re human, too.

Being human means we make mistakes as everyone does. But Jeff, by his own admission, said these actions were unethical. That’s a red-flag word in our profession.
