Magazine uses augmented reality for drink specials

Time Out New York (TONY) has created a "Summer Drinking" channel in partnership with augmented reality app Junaio that provides readers discounts at local bars and restaurants.

iPhone 3Gs and Android users can download the Junaio app, set it to the TONY channel and by pointing the cell phone at bars featured in the magazine they will see instructions for getting available discounts.

Rimma Kats reports that the effort is the magazine's first mobile project. "We're promoting the feature in both the magazine and online through our site and enewsletters," [Marci Weisler, digital business director of Time Out North America, New York] said. "Junaio is also promoting the channel to their users."
