Mediagazer's McCarthy joins NYO; Guardian's U.S. operation gets Davies, Cox

Mediagazer founding editor Megan McCarthy -- described as "the new doyenne of the media scene" earlier this year -- has been named New York Observer news editor. “Megan has a great eye for a story and I look forward to seeing her talents contribute to making an Observer that’s faster and more agile,” says Observer editor Elizabeth Spiers. It was also announced this morning that Wonkette founding editor Ana Marie Cox and phone-hacking scoopster Nick Davies will join The Guardian's new U.S. website. Joe Pompeo reports: "Davies and Cox join Robert Mackey, whom The Guardian recently poached from The New York Times to be a reporter and blogger for the paper's U.S. website."

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
