The University of Missouri’s School of Journalism has named David Kurpius as the new dean. According to Ashley Jost, who reported the hiring for the Columbia Daily Tribune on Thursday, Kurpius is a professor and associated vice chancellor at Louisiana State University.
“We’re excited to have him here as the School of Journalism is poised to enter a new era of innovation,” (MU Provost Garnett) Stokes said in a written statement. “David’s scholarship as well as his academic and professional background will help elevate MU’s status as a top-tier, AAU (Association of American Universities), land-grant institution.”
In a report on the j-school’s website, Kurpius said he was looking forward to working with the school through a time of change “as we work to rethink and reshape our practice and study in this industry.”
Quincy Hodges with NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune reported that Kurpius will start at Missouri on July 1.
