Nebraska paper says Redskins will now be called Washington

Lincoln Journal Star

The Lincoln Journal Star has stopped using the nickname "Redskins" -- the pro football team will simply be referred to as Washington -- and no longer prints sports team logos that use Native symbols. Also, the paper has dropped the word "Fighting" when it's used with team nicknames such as "Fighting Sioux" or "Fighting Illini." Journal Star editor Kathleen Rutledge says: "We've made this decision out of respect for Native people. Plain and simple."
