NYT, ProPublica explain their long-form journalism e-books

Times associate managing editor Jim Schachter says "Open Secrets" -- a $5.99 Kindle e-book -- gives the Times “another bite of the public’s attention for our outstanding work on this story." ProPublica general manager Richard Tofel tells Damon Kiesow that “Pakistan and the Mumbai Attacks: The Untold Story” -- sold for 99 cents as a Kindle Single -- is part of a larger effort to find “interesting new ways for people to look at long-form journalism.”

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
