The Spokesman-Review receives the 2006 Payne Award for Ethics in Journalism for its “deliberate reporting process” in its investigation of Spokane Mayor Jim West. Times reporter Kurt Eichenwald receives the individual award for “preserving the editorial integrity of an important story while reaching out to assist his source, Justin Berry, in reporting on Berry’s involvement in child pornography.”
