In August, Philadelphia Media Network will start selling Android tablets pre-loaded with apps for the two newspapers, according to Adweek’s Lucia Moses. The tablets will have replica apps, which mimic the newspaper and require a subscription, as well as another Inquirer app and a home screen shortcut to Philly.com. “Pricing and device details haven’t been pinned down, but the idea is for the tablet and newspaper content combined to be half off their full retail price,” Moses writes. She adds that although this idea has been widely discussed, this seems to be “the most aggressive push in that direction thus far.” Greg Osberg, CEO and publisher of Philadelphia Media Network, estimated the cost in the six figures. The company will also announce a tech startup incubator as part of other changes, Moses reports. || Earlier: iPad changes equation of newspaper-subsidized e-reader.
