Philadelphia Newspapers to be renamed Philadelphia Media Network

The company -- publishers of the Inquirer, Daily News and philly.com -- will be owned by 16 banks and investment firms, all of which had been senior lenders to Philadelphia Newspapers L.L.C. The new ownership group still must negotiate new contracts with the company's 14 unions, notes Christopher Hepp.

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
