Politico editor resigns after posting address of White nationalist
Michael Hirsh, national editor of Politico Magazine, resigned Tuesday after posting the address of White nationalist Richard Spencer online and urging people to "exercise your rights as decent Americans."
Hirsh, who joined Politico from National Journal in 2014, posted two of Spencer's addresses on Facebook. In a subsequent post, he said he wasn't "thinking of (sending) a...letter" and referenced grandfathers who "brought baseball bats to bund meetings."
In a statement, Politico Editor-In-Chief John Harris and Editor Carrie Budoff Brown called the posts "clearly outside the bounds of acceptable discourse."
These posts were clearly outside the bounds of acceptable discourse, and POLITICO editors regard them as a serious lapse of newsroom standards. They crossed a line in ways that the publication will not defend, and editors are taking steps to ensure that such a lapse does not occur again.
