Retired NYTer Darnton named Polk Awards curator
John Darnton, 67, who retired from the New York Times as an associate editor in 2005, but continues to consult with the paper on special projects, begin his service as curator of the George Polk Awards on Sept. 1. He succeeds Sidney Offit, who has served as curator for 32 years.

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
