Matthew DeSimone was delivering papers in Roanoke, Va., when he smelled what he thought was a wood fire at one of the houses on his route, Bryce Williams reports. He woke the owner just in time.

DeSimone was delivering The Roanoke Times, that paper’s Keith Liles confirms in a phone call.
