The Union-Tribune had helped fund the non-profit investigative journalism organization and published many of its stories. Lorie Hearn, a former U-T senior editor who launched the Watchdog Institute last year, says the news outlet will receive a grant from an unnamed national foundation to support its journalism and fundraising efforts.
