A 3G version of the SlingPlayer iPhone app was approved today, highlighting a significant change in how AT&T handles streaming media over its network. SlingPlayer allows people who have Slingboxes connected to their home televisions to stream video to their iPhones. Until now, the iPhone app worked only over Wi-Fi connections, in deference to AT&T’s concerns about network congestion. Earlier in the week, a new software development kit update from Apple removed a similar prohibition for voice-over-IP applications.
