Gizmodo Media Group announced Wednesday that Susie Banikarim will serve as the company’s new editorial director. Banikarim comes to the new role from Harvard University’s Shorenstein Center on Media, where she was a filmmaker-in-residence.

She will oversee editorial operations at Gizmodo sites including The Root, Kotaku, Gizmodo, Deadspin, Jezebel and Jalopnik, according to a press release.

“Susie is taking on the newsroom leadership role at Gizmodo Media Group at a time when our journalism is robust and attracting new, and growing, audiences,” said CEO Raju Narisetti in the press release. “Her proven journalism credentials, her expertise in multimedia storytelling, her well-known track record of mentoring talent, and her passion and enthusiasm for our sites made her a clear choice for this critical role.”

Banikarim has previously worked as chief content officer at Vocativ, deputy director of editorial at Newsweek/The Daily Beast and at ABC News. She was also a 2014 Nieman Fellow.
