Tips for surviving, thriving in a small TV market

In this week's career chat, we talked with Jam Sardar, news director of WLNS-TV in Lansing, Mich., about surviving in small television markets. Sardar, who's a former national vice president for broadcast in the Asian American Journalists Association, spoke on the subject at last week's AAJA convention.

During the chat, Sardar drew on his experiences as a reporter, anchor and news director and offered tips on thriving in a small market. He also talked about how to use your experience in a small market to propel you to a larger one.
