TV critic: 'Chicago Tribune's priorities and mine were heading in different directions'

Maureen Ryan, who is leaving the Chicago Tribune after 13 years to join AOL Television, says "the Tribune's needs changed over time, and my reviews seemed to be less and less necessary to the print product's daily operation. In the past year, quite a few of my reviews, news stories and features appeared only online. ...I'd be surprised if the Tribune filled my position."

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
