TV station owner gives $500 to every employee

"A day at the office doesn't get any better than that!" says KOTV-TV content director Ed Trauschke, who posted a photo on Facebook of the five Benjamins plus a thank-you note he said Oklahoma-based Griffin Communications had decided to give to each employee. "Why? Because they own two of the top rated CBS stations in the country and business is very good," Trauschke writes.

Griffin Communications also owns KQCW in Tulsa and KWTV in Oklahoma City. KWTV is home of superstar meteorologist Gary England, subject of an August feature in the New York Times Magazine.

In May England talked with Poynter's Al Tompkins about how he reports on storms:

England says when he is on the air he tries not to use “scary adjectives.” The viewer can look out their windows and see there is a big storm out there. “I don’t have to tell them it is scary,” he said.
