We're looking for our next Google News Lab Fellow. Is it you?

The Poynter Institute is kicking off a national search for its next Google News Lab Fellow, and we want you to apply.

In each of the last four years, Poynter has selected one U.S. college student to help us fulfill our mission of informing and instructing journalists around the world. Successful applicants generally have professional experience at multiple news outlets, a solid grasp of digital journalism and a demonstrated interest in covering the media.

Journalism nerds should definitely apply, especially those who can recite the Mike Rezendes monologue from "Spotlight" or rattle off their favorite reporters at the drop of a newsboy cap.

In the past, Poynter's Google fellows have tackled some combination of the following duties: writing and editing news articles for our website, creating interactive graphics, growing our audience, setting our editorial strategy, teaching with our faculty and imparting digital wisdom to our staff. If you think you'd be good at those things, apply here.

As a former Google fellow at Poynter, I can certify that this is an amazing way to spend your summer. While you're here, you'll bang out stories a few feet away from Poynter's writing guru, Roy Peter Clark. You'll talk over controversial issues with our media ethicist and vice president, Kelly McBride. You'll be assigned a mentor who will ensure you make the most of your time in Florida. And you'll do this in the company of the best journalists in the world, who visit Poynter to teach or hone their skills.

The fellowship runs for 10 weeks between June and August at our headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida. Google provides the fellow with an $8,500 stipend and a $1,000 budget for travel. The fellowship is open to any student 18 years or older who attended a U.S. college as of Jan. 1, 2016. The deadline is Jan. 3, so don't wait!

If you have any questions about the fellowship, feel free to email me at bmullin@poynter.org.
