WSJ pulls plagiarized "New Global Indian" column

The Journal says freelance writer Mona Sarika's Nov. 10 piece contained information that was plagiarized from several publications, including the Washington Post, Little India, India Today and San Francisco magazine. The paper says she also used direct quotes from other publications, without attribution, and changed the original speakers' names to individuals who appear to be fabricated.

    From 1999 to 2011, Jim Romenesko maintained the Romenesko page for the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based non-profit school for journalists. Poynter hired him in August of 1999, after seeing his MediaGossip.com, a hobby site he started in May of 1999.
