U-T San Diego carrier Eduardo Barajas saw “smoke and flames” coming from Sarah Erman’s home early Thursday morning. He “helped the frightened woman outside, alerted other residents to the fire and called 911,” Debbi Baker reports.
Barajas, who has delivered newspapers for 19 years, said he twisted his ankle during the incident and was going to see a doctor. He said he just did what anyone else would have done.
Let us thus add Barjas’ name to the roll call of heroic newspaper carriers, who are surely among the nation’s most underappreciated first responders. In just the past 12 months, newspaper carriers have saved people from fires in Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia.
