Mark Pincus, CEO of FarmVille creator Zynga, said Thursday that companies like his, Facebook, Pandora and others are still in the midst of building out the infrastructure of the social Web.
MG Siegler writes that Pincus described the current process as installing the “plumbing” and once that is completed, “the real fun can begin.”
“ ‘In five years, everybody will always be connected to each other, instead of the Web,’ he noted. He said that he often thinks of today’s social companies as ‘dial tones.’ That is, they’re merely entry points for these social connections.’ “
Pincus said he felt Facebook was the social dial tone, Pandora the music dial tone and he hoped to make Zynga the gaming dial tone.
