Millie Tran is the global growth editor at The New York Times, where her focus is on growing the international audience by working closely with and across the newsroom to build growth strategies around priority markets and specific audiences.
Most recently, she was the director of global adaptation at BuzzFeed, where she led a team of 13 people around the world developing products, processes and strategies to ensure the best of BuzzFeed is available across languages, platforms and formats.
Previously, Millie was a founding member of the team that developed and launched the BuzzFeed News app. In addition to those responsibilities, she created and edited the daily BuzzFeed News newsletter.
Before moving to New York from Washington, D.C., to join BuzzFeed, she was deeply entrenched in thinking, reading and writing about the news media, ethics in reporting and the future of journalism at the American Press Institute. She started API’s daily “Need to Know” newsletter.
During her tenure at the Council on Foreign Relations, Millie served as the multimedia coordinator. While there, she helped write, edit and produce a weekly podcast called “The World Next Week” on global events in the coming week. She was also a fellow at Atlantic Media Company. Shortly after the fellowship, she was hired as a marketing and design associate at National Journal, working on the launch of its membership program.
