Sona Patel is an editor on The New York Times's social media team where she oversees reader-sourced reporting and user-generated content efforts across desks. She also helps shape The Times’s strategy for incorporating reader comments and contributions into their daily news report.
Prior to joining The Times, Patel was the social media editor at The Seattle Times where she was part of the team that won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting. After graduating from the University of California, Irvine, she started her journalism career as a reporter for The (San Luis Obispo) Tribune where she covered the city of Morro Bay and the bankruptcy proceedings of one of the local community services districts.
She’s a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and served as president of the Seattle chapter and vice president of the New York chapter.
