Vidisha Priyanka is currently working with Poynter NewsU as the Interactive Learning Manager. She teaches multimedia, video and interactive storytelling, analytics and user engagement to professional journalists, onsite and online.
Before joining the NewsU team, Priyanka worked as Planning Editor for digital video at TBO.com, media partner of The Tampa Tribune and WFLA-TV, News Channel 8. She also worked as an Audience Editor and News and Special Projects producer for almost 10 years and helped focus resources on serving news audience.
This spring, she is an adjunct instructor at USF St. Petersburg, teaching a Digital Media Technology online course. She also teaches a Backpack Video Journalism online course for master’s students at National University, San Diego, a non-profit private university. She also taught a Web design and development course and co-taught a Multimedia, Interactive Journalism course at the University of South Florida.
Priyanka has a master’s degree in Journalism from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. She is a native of India and used to work as a content writer for the Web edition of India Today, the largest selling political magazine in India, and as a reporter and content producer for The Times of India, New Delhi.
Her work at Poynter touches every part of the Institute’s curricula on digital storytelling. She teaches video and digital storytelling in many in-person seminars, as well as online as the instructor of the online group seminar “Video Fundamentals for Beginners.” She has produced broadcasts, self-directed courses, and Webinars for NewsU, including the seven-part, five-city API Transformation Tour in 2012-2013 and the Poynter-India Project in 2014. Her passion is demystifying video and digital storytelling for journalists. She loves experimenting with new tools and will often have used an app before most people have had the chance to locate it in the AppStore.
