The Poynter ACES Certificate in Editing is an introductory level certificate containing self-paced courses. You can enroll in the courses individually; however, you’ll receive a certificate only if you enroll in the certificate program and successfuly complete the course assessments offered through it. This certificate program is a suggested prerequisite for the Poynter ACES In-Depth Editing Certificate.
This package includes six self-paced courses:

The Poynter ACES Certificate in Accurate, Audience-Focused Editing is an intermediate level certificate containing self-paced courses. Enrollment in this certificate will automatically enroll you in all courses listed, plus their related assessments. Please note that enrolling in the courses separately will not count toward the certificate.
This certificate program is available on its own or as part of the Poynter ACES Advanced Editing Certificate, which also contains an online group seminar.
Online Group Seminar
The ACES In-Depth Editing Online Group Seminar with Merrill Perlman and either Sue Burzynski Bullard or Nick Jungman is offered twice a year. Online seminars span over the course of four weeks and include self-paced learning, live sessions and one-on-one coaching and feedback. This online seminar is available on its own or as part of the Poynter ACES Advanced Editing Certificate, which also contains the Poynter ACES Certificate in Accurate, Audience-Focused Editing.
Course learning outcomes:
- How to improve content organization and structure
- How to edit for different audiences, disciplines and platforms
- How to apply critical thinking skills to evaluate content
- How to coach and collaborate with writers
- How to use all forms of display type across multiple platforms
- How to use templates and create style sheets in editing
This advanced editing certificate is for experienced editors who are seeking to move their work to a new level. It’s a comprehensive training program for editors and writers who want to hone their skills and edit strategically instead of just tactically. The Poynter ACES Certificate in Editing is a suggested prerequisite.
It contains the Poynter ACES Certificate in Accurate, Audience-Focused Editing and an Online Group Seminar starting on Oct. 9, 2020. Please note that enrolling in the courses separately will not count toward the advanced certificate.
The Poynter-ACES Advanced Editing Certificate is available twice a year when the online seminar runs. It’s developed in partnership with the editing pros from the ACES: The Society for Editing.
