Accused pedophile priest Paul R. Shanley, who posted $300,000 cash bail three days ago, was re-released to stay in Provincetown after a judge called him back to court yesterday because of concerns about his proximity to children living near him.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Charles Grabau emphasized that Shanley, 71, had not violated any of the conditions of his bail. The judge said he summoned Shanley back to Cambridge after Provincetown residents and their police chief expressed fears that he might be staying near schools, playgrounds and day-care centers.

Shanley already was under orders not to have any contact with children under age 16, but Grabau tightened that provision even further.
