Bernard Cardinal Law’s resignation opened some wallets yesterday, though some major church benefactors cautioned it will take time, healing and reforms to bring back many donors.

“We begin to see the road back,” said Jack Connors, an influential church benefactor who called for Law’s resignation as the head of the Boston archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church.

“One cardinal’s resignation doesn’t change the policy of the church,” said Connors, chief executive of advertising agency Hill Holliday Connors Cosmopulos. “But the need is so great out there, I think a lot of people are going to want to be responsive if asked by (Bishop Richard G. Lennon).”
