NYTimes.com — shows up in the top six news sites linked to most as sources by the main Google News page. According to an analysis by Newsknife of sources that Google News uses, Reuters comes in first, followed by (here’s a surprise) Guardian Unlimited UK. Next is ABCNews.com, followed by AJC.com (Atlanta Journal-Constitution), SFGate.com (San Francisco Chronicle), then finally the New York Times. Since the Google News version tested by Newsknife is the one aimed primarily at the U.S. online audience, it’s odd that the Guardian would rate so high.

Newsknife analyzed the news links (only for the “hard news” categories: Top Stories, World, and U.S.) on Google News during December and January and has just released its findings. If you want to go deeper than this brief summary, you’ll need to pony up $10 for Newsknife’s “Members Area,” which allows you to see the Google News story-link count for 1,138 news sites. (Here’s the list of sites included.)
