Critic: NYT travel writers scour the globe for NY-like places

Thomas Swick notes that the revamped New York Times Travel section is quite hip. “This is not a surprise to readers of the other Sunday sections — Travel, predictably, the basement that almost gets forgotten in the home remodeling — but it is disheartening to people who want to learn about the world.” The Florida journalist says the Times section “has been feeding the stereotype many Americans have of New Yorkers — that they are not interested in anything outside of New York — by scouring the globe to bring us places that dutifully mimic New York.”
