“That’s one of those cases where a little breathing space would have been a good thing, but I would have ended up in the same place,” says departing Miami Herald executive editor Tom Fiedler. “I regretted it with Jim [DeFede]. I had high regard for him. I would say Jim was my friend, although Jim might throw up if he heard me say that.” RE HIS FUTURE: “I have no idea what I’m going to to do next. The thing that is apt to be most interesting to me isn’t going to be apparent to me right now. I need to give myself time.”
